Surround Yourself with Inspiration

I recently had a 3-hour coffee date with one of my close friends. Each time I see her I’m reminded of why we’re friends. We’re friends because we share the same values, ambitions and sense of humor. She is someone who believes in me just as much as I believe in her. We’re also friends because she is someone who inspires me and someone I admire.

There are only a handful of people that I can truly say such things about. One of them is my dad and another is @bradwellman. Surrounding yourself with people you admire has a way of continually reenergizing your love for life, inspiring you to be true to yourself and work toward accomplishing your goals.

Spend your time with the people who have the most positive impact on your happiness. Have meaningful conversations with people you admire. Tell those people what you admire about them. Make time for those who want to spend their time with you. They probably want to spend time with you because having you in their life makes them happier.

Do simple things that bring you happiness. Do simple things that bring other people happiness. Doing simple things for yourself and others can make a significant difference in your day. Recently, someone I look to on Twitter each day for inspiration went out of his way to recognize me and a couple of other inspirational people on his blog. Thank you, @craigpladson, for your simple gesture that absolutely made my day.

See? How simple. Now it’s your turn.

Make time for the good people and the good things in your life because you’re not guaranteed tomorrow. Don’t spend time waiting and don’t make excuses. Pursue your passions. Make positive differences in the lives of others. Surround yourself with inspiration.

  1. Great post and I appreciate the mention. You’re right, it’s oftentimes what people think are the “simple” things that have the biggest impact and inspire people most. But, ironically, the simple things are usually less obvious and take a little more time to accomplish. Keep up the great work and I’m looking forward to your next post!

    • Craig – I agree the simple things are usually less obvious and most definitely take time! The fact that you took time out of your busy schedule (job…St. Thomas…personal life…on and on…) to recognize other people means more than you probably know :)
