Kaye Davis - Grand Master Photographer 30 August 2023

Come learn from the Photography Judge to beat all Photography Judges. Kaye is the person who taught our mentor how to look at a photo critically. She ran the Iris Judging program for the New Zealand Institute for Professional Photographers for many years and developed many of the country's standing photography judges. She also held the role of shaping the skill sets of some of New Zealand's top photographers in her role as teacher at UCOL. But most of all she is a fine artist and makes things of beauty with her camera. She won the 2013 NZ
Photographer of the Year, and NZ Creative Photographer of the Year four times.
Come listen to her stories, ask her questions, and get her to give you feedback on your work.

Pounamu Wharekawa | 23 August 2023

Pounamu Wharekawa (Ngāi te Rangi, they / themme / ia) is an angry indigenous baddie, fine artist, illustrator and muralist. They make art that speaks about intersections of identity through the lens of a queer, small town turned urban turned small town again Māori living their best boring life back in the house they grew up in beautiful Whāingaroa
Pounamu’s art often straddles the line between the surreal and the mundane, seeing beauty in the everyday and balancing quiet moments of peaceful introspection with undertones of inherited outrage.
Their work is traditional pūrākau meets urbanised brat, using vibrant palettes to imagine a world where their ancestors and atua live on in technicolour; dancing alongside them in the club and sending them memes on Instagram.
Pounamu is riding a wave of rediscovery and reclamation, reaping the benefits made through the work of those who came before them and striving to make the journey easier for those who come after.
